C’mon Down To Texas For The Biggest and Best Education Day Ever!!!!
Pack Up and Come To Our 2008 BHCA Basset Hound University Nationals Education Day

Sponsored by BHCA Member Education
Date: Sunday, September 27, 2008
Location: Southfork Hotel, Plano, Texas (866)-665-2680

This year’s BHU Day offers the biggest selection of Basset Hound education classes to date with the most BHCA presenters we have ever had. And this year you can pick and choose which sessions are of interest to you. Our day will start at 9 am and go until 4 pm. Topics will include:

1. VOICES OF EXPERIENCE An exciting and educational round table discussion among some of the leading breeders/judges in the Basset Hound breed. Our panel will consist of Col Robert Booth (Hiflite Bassets); Barbara Cromley (Lochopt Bassets); Scott Deans (Foxglen Bassets); Sharon Dok (Castelhill’s Bassets); Claudia Orlandi (Topsfield Bassets); Claire “Kitty” Steidel (Sanchu Bassets); and Joan Urban (Fort Merrill Bassets).

Topics to be addressed: Breeding tips; suggestions for newer breeders; mistakes to avoid; mentors; competing; “if we had to do it over again”; the current status of the breed; judging from a breeder’s perspective and much more.

2. GROOMING & CONDITIONING CLINIC Back by popular demand! More goes into grooming and conditioning a Basset Hound than you might imagine. Learn the trade secrets of top handlers and breeder, owner handlers.

3. HANDLING CLINIC Professional Handler Bryan Martin is scheduled to do an unprecedented handling clinic on assessing your Basset for the show ring, tips on training puppies and how to get the most out of what you’ve got. Watch their approach when they get their hands on an untrained puppy for the first time. Breeder-Owner-Handlers, Scott and Betsy Dean, will also demonstrate their approach to getting Bassets ready for the show ring. At the conclusion of the clinic, attendees are invited to bring their dogs for hands-on help from a panel of experienced Basset handlers.

4. PERFORMANCE CLINICS Clinics in each area of Basset Hound interest (obedience, tracking, field trialing; hunt test, agility, rally, and Canine Good Citizenship) will be given by experts in each area. Attendees are invited to bring their Bassets to get a sampling of what each area of performance is like.

5. CANINE GOOD CITIZEN TESTS will be offered throughout the day.

6. PENDING APPROVAL: TESTING YOUR BASSET ON RABBIT! For those interested in testing their Bassets on live rabbit, we are hoping to secure the use of fenced hunting grounds at a nearby site. This activity will take place at the conclusion of the Education Day at about 3:30. We will keep you advised of our progress in getting the use of this site. Those interested should contact Jo Ann Hilliker at: 352-495-3323.

7. A BOX LUNCH WILL BE AVAILABLE TO ALL ATTENDEES!

Attendance for the whole day is $25, which includes handouts and a box lunch. If you don’t wish to purchase lunch, the cost is $15 for the day. Email Claudia Orlandi if you plan to attend: domorlan@gmavt.net or send in the form below:
